Overtaking, advancing, passing the oncoming traffic

11.1. Before starting to overtake another vehicle, the driver must make sure that the lane on which he is going to go, is free on sufficient for overtaking distance and in the process of overtaking will not create danger for traffic and interference to other participants of the road traffic.

11.2. The driver should not perform overtaking in cases, if:

    • a vehicle moving ahead, is overtaking or de-tour obstacles;
    • the vehicle, moving ahead in the same lane, gave a signal to turn right.
    • the means of transport behind began overtaking;
  • on completion of overtaking he cannot, without creating danger to traffic and disturbance to overtaken means of transport, return to the previously occupied lane.

11.3. The driver of the overtaken vehicle is prohibited from hindering the overtaking by increasing the speed of movement or other actions.

11.4. Overtaking is prohibited:

    • on the controlled intersections, as well as on the non-regulated intersections when not driving on the main road;
    • at pedestrian crossings if pedestrians are present on them;
    • at railway crossings and closer than 100 meters in front of them;
  • on the bridges, overpasses and under them, as well as in tunnels;
  • at the end of the climb, the dangerous turns and in other areas with limited visibility.

11.5. Advancing the vehicles on pedestrian crossings is performed with consideration of the requirements of paragraph 14.2 of the Rules.

11.6. In case if outside of the built-up areas overtaking or advancing of slow speed vehicle, or vehicle transporting large cargo, or of a vehicle moving at a speed not exceeding 30 km/h, is difficult, the driver of slow speed vehicle shall take as much as he can to the left, and if necessary stop to let go the following transport vehicles.

11.7. In case if passing of oncoming traffic is difficult, the driver, on the side of which there is an obstacle, must give way.

If there is an obstacle on the slope, designated with signs 1.13  or 1.14 , or  in the hills, the driver of the vehicle moving at the descent should give way. When such meeting takes place in a dip or on a level stretch of road, the vehicle on the  inside of road, that is, the side from which the hill side sloped upwards, shall give way. The driver while taking turn over every bend and curve shall give horn, provided that it shall not be necessary to give a horn at a bend or curve near a hospital if an indication for not giving a horn has been put at that bend or curve.
