The use of special signals

3.1. Drivers of vehicles with installed beacon light of red color, fulfilling the urgent service task may derogate from the requirements of sections 6 (except the signals of the traffic controller) and 8 - 18 of these Rules, annexure 1 and 2 to these Rules, provided they assure traffic safety.

To gain advantage over other participants of traffic the drivers of such vehicles shall switch on the beacon light of red color and a special sound signal. They can take advantage of the priority after making sure that they are given way.

This same right is granted to drivers of vehicles, escorted by vehicles that have special colored-graphical signs on the outer surface, with switched on beacons of blue color or blue and red color and a special sound signal. The escorted vechiles should switch on the low beam headlights.

On the vehicles of traffic cops, security services of the Republic of India, in addition to the beacons of blue color, beacon light of red and blue color may also be installed.

3.2. At the approach of a vehicle with flashing beacon light of red or blue (or red and blue) color and a special sound signal, drivers must give way to ensure the unhindered passage of this vehicle, as well as those accompanied by this vehicle.

Never overtake the vehicle with flashing beacons of red color and a special sound signal.

It Is Prohibited to overtake the vehicle, which has special colored graphic signs on the outer surface, with flashing beacons of blue or blue and red colors and a special sound signal, as well as those accompanied by these vehicles.

3.3. Approaching to the standing vehicle with the flashing beacon of red color, the driver should reduce the speed so as to be able to stop immediately in case of need.

3.4.  Beacon light of orange color must be enabled on the vehicle in the following cases:
- execution of construction works, repair or maintenance of roads, loading of damaged, defective and transportation of vechile;
- transportation of large-sized cargoes, explosive, flammable, radioactive substances and toxic substances having a high degree of risk;
- excort of vehicles transporting large-sized, heavy and dangerous cargoes.

Flashing beacon light of orange color does not give advantages of priority of movement and is used to warn other traffic participants about the danger.

3.5. Drivers of vehicles with the flashing beacon light of orange color when performing the construction works, repair or maintenance of roads, loading of damaged, defective and transportation of vehicles may derogate from the requirements of traffic signs (except signs 2.2 , 2.4 , 2.5 , 2.6 , 3.11, 3.12 , 3.13 , 3.14 , 3.17.2 , 3.20 ) and road markings, as well as paragraphs 9.4- 9.8 and 16.1 of these Regulations provided they ensure road safety.

Drivers of vehicles used for transportation of large-sized cargoes, as well as those excorting vehicles carrying bulky and (or) heavy cargoes, with the flashiing beacon light of orange color may derogate from the requirements of the road markings provided they ensure the safety of road traffic

3.6. Drivers of vehicles of postal service and vehicles carrying revenues and (or) valuable cargo may switch on flashing beacon of white-moonlight color and a special sound signal only during the attacks on these vechiles. Flashing beacon of white-moonlight color don't provide an advantage in movement and serves only to attract attention of the police and other persons.

3.7. At the approach of the vehicle of police, or ambulance, or fire, which has special colored graphic signs on the outer surface, with flashing beacons and a special sound signal, drivers must give way to ensure the unhindered passage of this vehicle.
